Product Fundamentals
  • Attention to detail Conn pride themselves on exceptional build quality. This is why all of their instruments are hand built by experienced artisans in the United States. What really makes the Conn 88HCL trombone stand out is the "CL2000" rotor. This rotor was designed with the world-famous trombone artist Christian Lindberg so you know its going to be good! The "CL2000" rotor boasts the shortest throw found on any trombone meaning the transition to the F attachment is the fastest and smoothest around. Thanks to the unique design of this rotor it removes any resistance that is normally found in traditional rotors and also functions without making any "pop" sound - a must have for recording artists. The bore through the F attachment is larger than the rest of the trombone measuring at .562. This large bore coupled the CL2000 rotor eliminates any resistance allowing the F attachment to be used without any noticeable difference to the performer. The 88HCL features a large .547 bore which is typical of most premium symphonic trombones as it creates a warm and rich sound. The large 8-1/2 bell is perfect for projecting this rich sound with plenty of resonance to the back of the biggest concert halls. The Conn 88HCL comes with a professional hardwood shell case and Conn 5G mouthpiece both specifically made for this instrument. Premium materials Much like most of the trombones from Conn the 88HCL is constructed using rose brass. Rose brass is the material of choice for the majority of orchestral brass players as it has a darker sound compared to the more common yellow brass. To ensure that your slide is always fast the 88HCL has a chrome plated nickel silver inner slide which also provides a bright and powerful sound to the performer. Nickel silver is used for many premium trombone slides because its firmer and has greater corrosion resistance compared to standard brass. Once the 88HCL has been constructed a layer of clear lacquer is applied to make sure the instrument stays looking newer for longer.
