- Addario produces three varieties of Helicores for double basses. The Orchestral Strings are responsive when used with a bow and optimised damping results in a warmer softer sound when strummed. Helicore Pizzicato Strings are better for jazz playing with increased sustain while plucked and a darker tone. Hybrids are the best of both worlds having both balanced damping and a longer pizzicato sustain. Varying tensions Helicores come in multiple tensions meaning you can ensure your strings are ideal for any instrument or genre. A lighter tension needs less pressure to play though as a result can&rsquo
