- DAddario Kaplan Kaplan double bass strings feature a core made of steel wires braided together to allow for both strength and flexibility. The G string is wound with titanium which adds a brightness well suited to the highest string on the double bass. The D and A strings are wound with nickel a common winding for strings due to its durability and resistance to corrosion. The E string is wound with tungsten which is an ideal material for the lowest string due to it density. Light tension This set of strings are light tension. These will produce the softest sound of the three levels of tension however you will find these strings easier to stop and as a result may find that you have a higher playing stamina on these strings.
