- DAddario Kaplan Kaplan double bass strings feature a core made of steel wires braided together to allow for both strength and flexibility. The G string is wound with titanium which adds a brightness well suited to the highest string on the double bass. The D and A strings are wound with nickel a common winding for strings due to its durability and resistance to corrosion. The E string is wound with tungsten which is an ideal material for the lowest string due to it density. Heavy tension These strings are a heavy tension. These strings will sound the loudest of the three tensions of these strings however these strings will be harder to stop as a result of the higher tension.
