- DW HVLT shell construction The 100 percent maple shells produce a full-bodied warm sound that makes it super punchy. The shells feature a special HVLT construction the same technology that is standard on the DW Collectors Series. This potent combination of slightly thicker plies delivers more fullness punch and sonic versatility. HVLT translates to Horizontal Vertical Low Timbre. Commonly when drum shells are in construction the outer ply is placed so the grain of the wood is vertical. DW Drums added the H to HVLT by placing the outer ply so that the wood grain is horizontally facing. This gives the shells additional tension and a deeper low end to the tone. Consistent and reliable tuning In order to provide drummers with even more control over their own sound DW have created their True-Pitch rod system. The rods feature 5mm threads instead of the standard 12mm or 24mm threads that are on most other drums. This allows the DW Design Series shells to be tuned far more accurately giving you the perfect consistent tone from your kit.
