Product Description

  • Options to suit all players Jargar offers their bass strings in three different tensions Forte (heavy) Medium and Dolce (light). Lighter strings tend to respond better to the bow and are less tiring for extended periods of playing. The light strings can also be tuned up a tone for solo tuning (A E B F#). While having a slower response to the bow heavier strings tend to produce a louder and more intense sound. Medium sits in between these. With this choice you can pick the best string tension for your playing style. If you play a lot of scordatura pieces in solo tuning then the light tensions are the best option for you the medium and heavy tension strings should not be tuned up a tone. Like most strings you can buy all strings are available separately. Jargar also have strings unique to the double bass available. You are able to buy an extended E string if your instrument has a low C extension fitted. You can also purchase a low B string if you have a five string bass. Jargar use German notation so you may see it referred to as H. About Jargar Jargar began in 1956 after years of experimentation by Danish cellist Jarl Hansen. Hansen wanted more from his cello than the gut strings he was using could provide. Hansen developed a string with a core of steel and wound with pure or alloyed metal. Like many other string makers Hansen realised that steel cores offered far greater stability and durability than gut strings and a stronger tone. Hansens strings grew to be extremely popular amongst classical musicians and the company expanded to making strings for violin viola and double bass as well as the cello. Specifications Tension: Forte (heavy) String note: E (low C extension) Core material: Flexible steel End: Ball end Winding: Chrome steel Instrument size: 3/4+ String diameter: 2.96 mm
