- Jargar String Range Jargar offer their viola strings in three different tensions Forte (heavy) Medium and Dolce (light). Lighter strings tend to respond better to the bow and are less tiring for extended periods of playing. While having a slower response than the lighter tensions heavier ones tend to produce a louder and more intense sound. Medium sits in between these. Neither is better than the other and you should consider which will match your playing style and tonal preferences the best. About Jargar Jargar began in 1956 after years of experimentation by Danish cellist Jarl Hansen. Hansen wanted more from his cello than the gut strings he was using could provide. Hansen developed a string with a core of steel and wound with pure or alloyed metal. Like many other string makers Hansen realised that steel cores offered far greater stability durability and stronger tone than gut. Hansens strings grew to be extremely popular amongst classical musicians and the company expanded to making strings for violin viola and double bass as well as the cello. Whats at Gear4music?
