Product Fundamentals
- Choose the right material for you Many string makers put a lot of care and thought into the materials for their strings. Larsen is no exception. The E string in this set is made of solid carbon steel and comes with either a ball end or loop end depending on your violins tailpiece. The lower three strings have a multi-filament nylon core. Synthetic cores like this are often used for their similarity in tone to gut while also being stable in different temperatures or humidities. The A and D strings are wound with precision rolled aluminium flat wire and the G string is wound with pure silver. These materials are chosen for their combination of tone colours and deliver a warm sound. There are also options available for different string combinations. The E string is available with gold plating over the steel core this provides extra brilliance to the sound while also being more resistant to corrosion. There is also the option of a steel core A string the steel makes this string brighter in tone making it useful if you have an instrument with a darker tone. You can also get the D string in a silver wound version that matches the G string. The silver in this string makes this darker in tone this can be useful if your instrument has a brighter tone. Larsen Strings Larsen began in 1990 when Laurits Th. Larsen was tasked with obtaining 300 strings for a colleague. Larsen decided to make the strings himself in his garage. In 18 months his first cello A string was produced. Since then Larsen has expanded producing strings for violin and viola as well as cello. Larsen provides their strings in a packaged envelope like many strings. What sets Larsen apart is that they are embossed and sealed in their envelopes ensuring the authenticity and quality of each string from Larsen. Whats at Gear4music?
