Product Description
- Updated AND upgraded How do you improve perfection? According to the Maxon OD9 you switch from buffered to true bypass! Maxon defined musical history when they first introduced the OD9 back in 1982 and its legacy speaks for itself. Sporting radical design features the OD9 would go on to be one of the most copied circuits of all time a testament to just how good it sounds. The one modification many players would make over the years was switching from buffered bypass to true bypass the advantage of this being your tone remains uncoloured when the overdrive effect isnt engaged. Maxon saw the advantage of this and decided to update the OD9 and drag it into the 21st century. This modern brighter version of the OD9 has a slightly rougher edge making it better suited to slightly heavier styles and the OD808 for cleaner applications. The OD9 can still do the classic warm well-rounded sound that Maxon is known for but its also capable of taking things up a notch and going slightly higher gain than its older counterpart. Widely imitated but never accurately replicated there are a few unique features that give the OD9 its characteristic sound signature. One of these is that the active high pass filter in the clipping stage rolls off the bass so that only frequencies above 720Hz get the full distortion and harmonics below get progressively less making the distortion frequency selective. After the clipping stage a passive low pass filter shaves off excess treble giving the characteristic mid boost that Maxon overdrives are known for. The clipped output signal then also contains part of the input signal perfectly preserving the original dynamics of the instrument while also improving the responsiveness and overall clarity of the distortion. This is what makes the OD9 special- optimum signal filtering and frequency selective distortion.
