- Pirastros stranded steel core Multiple strands of steel are twisted like rope to create the core for this string resulting in excellent flexibility and tonal variations. The exact amount of twists determines the flexibility and the different variations in the twist alter the characteristics of the sound further. Stranded steel cores are most commonly seen on the instruments of professional double bassists and on the lower strings of the cello. Variations to suit you the best Flexocors should be for everyone. That is why they are available in sizes from 1/10-1/16 up to 5/4 size. Alternate strings such as 2.10 metre E-strings low B strings and high C strings are all available if you have five string or extended E-string basses. Flexocors are also available in solo tuning the standard four orchestral strings tuned a major second higher unlocking the sound and feel of Flexocors for solo repertoire.
