- The Roswell Colares is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone with a grand, colourful sound. This microphone is very reminiscent of overpriced German tube microphones from the first half of the last century. However, it is a solid state microphone with a modest price tag that is handmade in California. Key components such as the capsule and transistors are all new-old-stock and hand-selected. The solid state circuit has a very low noise floor, which gives you room to play with the amount of saturation of the output transformer. By nature, the microphone has a decent amount of flavourful saturation, but if you want to take it down a notch, you can use the -10 dB pad. In short: the Roswell Colares has the sound of the most sought-after tube microphones but not the drawbacks.
