Product Fundamentals
- Six and seven-year-olds are usually most comfortable with the smaller 1/4-size violin. The Scarlatti VL 1/4 is a very reasonably priced instrument for parents who are not sure whether the violin is the right choice for their child. However, the Scarlatti VL violin is highly complete: it features fine tuners and even comes with a violin case and a bow. Its body is made of solid spruce and solid maple. 1/4-size violins 1/4-size violins are suited for children with an arm length of approximately 48 cm, measured from the centre of their palm to the neck, directly below the jaw. Their hand should be able to comfortably curl around the scroll, with the fingers pointed at their face and their elbow only slightly curved. When in doubt, always go with the smaller of the two sizes. Note that 1/4 does not mean that it is a quarter of the size of a regular 4/4 violin - the difference is much, much smaller than that.
