- The Vic Firth American Classic X5AN Vic Grip is a variant of the well-known 5A drumstick. However, it differs in a number of important ways. For instance, the X stands for Extreme, which means that these sticks are half an inch longer and therefore have a length of 16.5 inches. This generous extra inch gives you just that bit of extra reach you sometimes look for. It also means the weight is a bit more forward, making it easier to play harder. The N stands for nylon, the material the tip is made of. This ensures a clear sound on your cymbals. They also last longer than wooden tips. The final difference from the original 5As is the grip layer. The American Classic X5AN Vic Grip is equipped with a very present red grip layer, which ensures that you have to do some very strange antics if you want your sticks to fly out of your hand. So you need to spend less strength holding your sticks and can focus on your playing.
