This allows you to capture sound from both the front and the rear of the capsule whilst rejecting all unwanted ambience at the microphones null points the sides. Using the Figure 8 polar pattern has many benefits for example this pattern is ideal for capturing two vocalists singing harmonies simultaneously. When paired with another fig.8 microphone and carefully positioned the polar pattern can also work wonders when tracking vocals and guitar from a single performer simultaneously. Its important to note that placement is crucial. Positioning the 4038 too close to the source can introduce a substantial increase in low frequency energy (commonly known as proximity effect!)
