Product Fundamentals
- Recording a piano is quite a challenge. You have to get those microphones (let&apos
- s say, two of them) into or above the piano with all kinds of rod stands. And then those rod stands are often there mostly in the way of the pianist. Surely that should be easier to do... And it can be easier, with the Earthworks PM40. This is a tube with two gooseneck condenser microphones attached. You hang the tube inside the piano, thus keeping a clean environment outside the piano. The microphones pick up quite a lot of frequencies, and they can handle a lot of sound pressure. It is a bit of an investment, but then you should calculate what a regular alternative would cost in microphones and stands, which can also get in the way. So this PM40 is not that bad!
