Product Fundamentals
  • String details The A and D strings are made of a solid steel core wound with a rolled flat wire. This combination provides a huge amount of brightness and projection. The G and C strings are made with Larsens multi-stranded steel core and wound with tungsten and precision rolled flat wire. The tungsten in the winding provides the warmth and depth that is needed for the lower strings on your cello. Two tensions This set is offered in two tensions medium and heavy. The Medium variation of these strings offer a wondrously sonorous sound with an easy response to the bow. The medium set is perfect for neutral to bright-sounding instruments. The heavy tension set is much brighteritsits timbre with more power and focus than its medium counterpart. The D strings in both are almost the same tension however the medium D string has a darker tone whereas the heavy D string has almost a song-like clarity in its tone. The heavy string set for Magnacores are more suited to naturally darker instruments. Arioso Larsen offers a modified set of Magnacores called Ariosos. These are only produced in a medium tension and are designed to provide an extra level of projection and expressive capability to your playing. The G and C strings have a lower tension while not compromising on the overall volume of your strings. This means the A and D string rise to prominence in your cellos sound while allowing easy access to the lower strings still. The Arisos are made with the same materials as the standard Magnacores. Larsen Strings Larsen began in 1990 when Laurits Th. Larsen was tasked with obtaining 300 strings for a colleague. Larsen decided to make the strings himself in his garage. In 18 months his first cello A string was produced. Since then Larsen has expanded producing strings for violin viola and cello. Larsen provides their strings in a packaged envelope like many strings. What sets Larsen apart is that they are embossed and sealed in their envelopes ensuring the authenticity and quality of each string from Larsen. Whats at Gear4music?
