It includes two emulation circuits that emulate 15 and 30 IPS tape speeds, respectively. The lower speed offers a warm sound with fewer high frequencies, while the higher speed is slightly flatter. Too much distortion can have the side effect of losing detail. To counteract this, you can use the blend knob to mix the original signal with the effect.
