Each shell is constructed using four plies of Canadian maple and three plies of Chinese maple which deliver a mellow warm tone with excellent low-frequency punch and a mixed balance of mids and highs. Maple is also renowned for its excellent projection - so if youre unsure whether this kit has what it takes to cut through an acoustic mix youre in safe hands with these maple shells. Whats more this Bop set is available in five different finishes so theres something for everyone! Small compact size - ideal when space is limited Unlike standard kits that usually come with a 20 or 22 diameter Bass drum the Sonor AQ2 Bop Set is shrunk down and features an 18" Bass drum. Not only is the Bass drum smaller but the rack and floor toms are also reduced in size. Whilst this configuration might look tiny the Sonor AQ2 Bop Set is by no means a quiet kit. But why are small kits so popular? Simply put - their shallow shells offer a shorter distance between the batter head and resonant head thus providing a faster reaction time whilst also greater sensitivity for softer beats. Whats more they are also perfect for smaller stages intimate gigs and homes where space is limited SmartMount - what is it? Last but not least - the hardware! All AQ2 series drums come complete with chrome-plated hardware fittings that perfectly complement each finish. They also include a convenient tom mounting SmartMount system. This innovative suspension system allows you to not only mount your tom but also mount a cymbal using the included boom arm holder. Whats more its functional design provides optimal sound sustain with a minimal amount of hardware on the drum shell. Finally if you fancied a different configuration then the AQ2 series share fittings and fixtures allowing you to easily mix and match build your own modular kit or add additional drums. Alternatively if you wanted something even more compact check out the AQ2 Safari and Martini kits which both feature much smaller bass drums.
