This dictates how quickly it takes for gain reduction to be applied to the signal. Turning the knob clockwise will increase the time it takes whilst turning it anti-clockwise will decrease.If you play with a pick and your part sounds too percussive then you can smooth out your performance with a fast attack time. Sustain- This (also known as release) determines the length of time it takes for the compressor to bring up the volume of the source to match that of the input level. This takes place once the source goes below the set threshold level. Adjusting the sustain knob allows you to decide whether your bass &ldquo
pumps&rdquo
or &ldquo
breathes&rdquo
.Slower sustain times are great for smoothing out the dynamics of a performance allowing you to push the bass further back into the mix. However be careful not to have too slow a sustain time as this can drain the life out of your performance. A faster sustain will bring out every nuance of your performance allowing you to achieve a denser thicker tone that most bassists strive for. Although too quick a release time can result in undesirable pumping artifacts. If this occurs increase the release until the effect reduces.
